Remains of the RKO Palace, Rochester, NY
The wonderful and elegant RKO Theatre became victim to the wrecking ball in 1965. The city was promised a high rise office building with a smaller theatre. All it ever became was a parking lot. The city in 2012 started to clear the site to build a new bus station and found the basement of the Palace intact. The building had just been bullbozed in on itself and a parking lot laid over it. Below are pictures I took of the site. The WurliTzer theatre organ, opus 1951 that once graced the Palace was saved by the Rochester Theatre Organ Society and is installed in the Auditorium Theatre on Main St. http://www.theatreorgans.com/rochestr/ and is used monthly for concerts.
